Injured in a Crash in Frisco?
You have three years from the date of the crash to file, not two. Claims arising from the use or operation of a motor vehicle get three years under C.R.S. 13-80-101(1)(n).
Frisco is where Summit County traffic converges. Two interstate exits, the highway to Breckenridge, and the road to Copper and Vail Pass all meet within a couple of miles of Main Street. That is what makes it convenient, and it is what makes it dangerous.

Three Years, Not Two
Injury claims arising from the use or operation of a motor vehicle generally must be filed within three years of the crash. Most other injury claims get two years under C.R.S. 13-80-102.
Claims involving a government vehicle or property have a much shorter notice deadline.
Where Crashes Happen in Frisco
Two interstate exits and the junction with Highway 9 put most of the county’s traffic through a few miles of road.
Exit 203 and Summit Boulevard
Exit 203 is where I-70 meets Colorado Highway 9, and Summit Boulevard runs just over a mile south from there to Main Street. It is the busiest point in town. Ramp meters already operate at the eastbound on ramp because of Denver bound weekend traffic. Backups form fast, and rear end collisions follow.
Main Street and Exit 201
Exit 201 puts drivers directly onto Main Street, a walking corridor with angled parking and crosswalks. Drivers coming off the interstate are still at highway speed mentally, and the people crossing pay for it.
Ten Mile Canyon Toward Copper and Vail Pass
West of town, I-70 runs through Ten Mile Canyon in a series of S curves past Officers Gulch, climbing toward Copper Mountain and Vail Pass. It is narrow and it is one of the first stretches to ice over.
When a Commercial Truck Is Involved
Frisco sits on the freight corridor between Denver and the Western Slope. That changes who you are actually making a claim against.
There Is Usually More Than One Responsible Party
The driver is one. The carrier that employs the driver is another. The company that loaded the trailer can be a third, and a maintenance contractor a fourth. Each may carry its own policy, which is why a truck claim can reach coverage that a claim against a private driver never could.
Their Adjuster Is Already Working
A commercial carrier’s insurer typically has an adjuster on the file within hours, often before you have been discharged. They are gathering evidence from the start. That is not a reason to panic. It is a reason not to give a recorded statement before you have talked to your own attorney.
The Evidence Has a Shelf Life
Electronic logging data, dashcam footage, and maintenance records exist on retention schedules. A letter asking a carrier to preserve them is one of the first things worth sending, and it has to be sent early to matter.
How Much Insurance Actually Exists
This question decides more claims than fault does, and almost nobody asks it early.
The Colorado Minimum Is Low
Colorado requires liability coverage of $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 for all persons in one accident, and $15,000 for property damage. A single ambulance ride and a night in the hospital can pass $25,000.
Your Own Policy May Be the Bigger Source
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage pays when the at fault driver has no insurance or not enough. MedPay helps with medical bills regardless of who was at fault. Many people carry both and do not know it.
Bring us your own policy, not just the other driver’s. It is a five minute read that regularly changes the size of a case.
Report the Crash, Even the Small One
Under C.R.S. 42-4-1606(1), a driver in a crash resulting in injury, serious bodily injury, death, or any property damage must give immediate notice to the nearest police authority. There is no dollar threshold on that duty, and failing it is a class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense.
The $1,000 figure people repeat is about something else. It is the point at which an officer is not required to investigate and file a report, and even then the officer must do it if one of the people involved asks, or if one of them cannot show proof of insurance. So ask.
Getting Treated After a Crash in Frisco
St. Anthony Summit Hospital is in Frisco. The county’s most serious injuries come here first, which is an advantage if you were hurt in town.
Get evaluated even if you think you can walk it off. A gap between the crash and your first medical visit is the most common argument insurers use to reduce a claim.
Keep every record. If you were treated here and then again at home, those are two separate sets of records, and both matter.
What Happens If You Were Partly at Fault
Colorado uses modified comparative negligence with a 50 percent bar (C.R.S. 13-21-111). If you are assigned part of the fault, your recovery drops by that share. At 50 percent or more, you recover nothing.
In a pileup on a wet or icy stretch, fault gets divided among several drivers, and each insurer has a reason to push a larger share onto you.
Where Your Case Would Be Filed
Summit County cases are filed at the Summit County Justice Center, 501 N. Park Avenue, Breckenridge, CO 80424, part of Colorado’s Fifth Judicial District, which also covers Eagle, Lake, and Clear Creek counties.
What Is a Car Accident Case Worth?
It is the most searched question after a crash in Colorado, and the published “average settlement” numbers are close to useless. They average cases that have nothing in common, and yours is not the average of anything.
What Actually Sets the Number
The full cost of your treatment including what you still need. The income you lost and the income you will lose. Whether the injury is permanent. How much coverage exists, on their side and on yours. And your share of fault under the 50 percent bar.
Why a Truck Claim Can Be Worth More
Not because the injuries are automatically worse, though they often are. Because there are usually several policies rather than one. When the driver, the carrier, and the company that loaded the trailer each carry coverage, the ceiling on the claim is not set by a single minimum policy.
Do Not Take the First Offer Before You Finish Treating
An early offer is priced on what is known so far, which is the least the claim will ever be worth. Once you sign a release, it is closed.
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

What Clients Say
Frequently Asked Questions
A truck hit me. Do I sue the driver or the company?
Often both, and sometimes more parties than that. Who belongs in the claim depends on who employed the driver, who loaded the trailer, and who maintained the vehicle. That is part of what the investigation establishes.
What percentage does an accident lawyer take?
Zobel Legal Group works on contingency. There is no fee for the consultation and no fee unless we recover money for you. The percentage is set out in writing before you sign anything.
How long after an accident can you file a claim in Colorado?
Three years for claims arising from the use or operation of a motor vehicle (C.R.S. 13-80-101(1)(n)), and two years for most other injury claims (C.R.S. 13-80-102). Claims involving a government vehicle or property have a much shorter notice deadline.
The other driver had no insurance. Is that the end of it?
Usually not. Your own uninsured motorist coverage may apply, and MedPay may cover medical bills regardless of fault. Bring us your policy and we will read it with you.
Do I have to drive to Denver?
Usually not. Most of the process is handled by phone, email, and video.
